Greater Cincinnati

I grew up in a bedroom suburb just outside of Cincinnati. I moved away when I was ten, and moved back in 2010. These first few galleries are from a week-long trip I took to Cincinnati while still living in New York City in June 2009:

Cake Town Memories
Photos from my hometown of Fort Thomas, Kentucky, just across the river from Cincinnati.

Downtown and the Riverfront
Cincinnati has a compact, vibrant downtown and a chain of waterfront parks that many larger cities would kill for.

The University of Cincinnati
I didn’t know it when I was taking these photos, but I’d be going to grad school here within a couple years.

Over the Rhine
OTR is the immense historic district north of downtown that is struggling to make a comeback after decades of neglect.

The Cincinnati Zoo
Cincinnati boasts the second-oldest public zoo in the country, and one of the finest.

The Village of Mariemont
A small suburb just outside of Cincinnati, Mariemont is one of the first planned communities in the US and modeled after an idyllic  English village. It also happens to be the place I was born in 1975.

Return to Eden
Photos from Mount Adams and Eden Park.

Union Terminal
Cincinnati is blessed to have one of the finest passenger rail stations in the world. If they’d only run more trains to it…

Cincinnati: Around Town
A few photos that don’t fit neatly into their own photo galleries.

Maysville Road Trip
A short side trip down Kentucky 8 to the historic town of Maysville.

‘Nati Weekend
Photos from a follow-up weekend visit to Cincinnati in October 2009. By this time I was severely burned-out with New York City yet again, and was actively planning my move back home to Cincinnati.

The Great Move of 2010
In February 2010, my job was the only thing keeping me in New York. When I got laid off, my first phone call was to Penske to reserve a moving truck. I was packed up and on the road within two weeks.

Bockfest 2010
Less than a week after arriving in town, I was invited to march in Cincinnati’s eccentric Bockfest parade.

Final Friday @ OTR
Some photos from my first Final Friday in Over-the-Rhine.

Alms Park
Some photos of one of Cincinnati’s more picturesque public parks.

Return to Woodfill
A nostalgic look back at my old elementary school in Fort Thomas before it met the wrecking ball and was replaced by a more modern building.

DAAPWorks 2010
A look at the annual year-end exhibitions of the University of Cincinnati’s College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning.

The New Pad
In January 2011 I moved from Cincinnati’s west side to a much nicer apartment in Over-the-Rhine.
